I Dreamed A Dream

You aren't the only one who can dream.
I dreamed a dream once too, you know.
I dreamed that you would be understanding.
I dreamed that it would hurt you less than it would hurt me,
In fact, I tried to make that so.
I dreamed that we could start over one day.
That things would be different.
That we wouldn't always be angry.
That we wouldn't serve as target practice for each other.
But I guess it will stay that way.
I guess we'll live each day in vain
Until one of us finally makes a bulls eye.
I guess it will stay only but a dream.
